Meet Three Artists In Process.

Real trajectories from inside the work.

What they arrived carrying.
What we traced, built, and uncovered together.
And what shifted ~ in the work and in them.

Jenny: Clarity That Carries
Jenny Stanjeski / Painter and Salonniere
Scenic Charge Artist @ The Julliard School
, Instructor @ Cobolt Studios Backdrops

“I was in the studio painting last week in absolutely different headspace. No critic.

It felt revolutionary —
curious and kind.

Now when challenged I don’t doubt my skill or vision. I step back. I question. I problem solve.”
— — —

Jenny came into our 1:1 work with an urgent sense that this new iteration of self / work / life wasn’t just something to name, but something to build from, think through, and make with:

“I needed an understanding, a grounding – of where I was creatively.
A grasp of who I was as a singular artist.”

They brought decades of creative depth — across painting, scenic design, voice, and teaching.

“As an artist who had previously worked in/with groups — that have now partially disbanded — what was MY work now?
What did I want?
What was next?
How do I find my new work?”

This began our ongoing three-year arc — one that’s still in motion.

The process wasn’t just about return — it was about reaching the conditions that would make return possible.

It was about architecture: building a ground strong enough to generate ideas, test new forms, and carry the work forward on different terms.

New modalities. New terms of encounter.
A way to move without performance.
To build strength inside the unknown.
To stay with the work long enough for it to reveal itself.

“How do I conquer the inertia, exhaustion and fear that makes creative expression feel like a physical luxury that I can’t afford?”

What had once sustained them no longer held.
They stood at the edge of a self that had outlived its structure —
carrying, at the same time, the urgency to reconstitute.

Their new north(s) emerged.
We built the vehicle to reach it.

🖤 Their words about the process:

“I’ll just say that there is no one else I know who does this work like she does; backed by an overwhelming history of experience, achievement, and research.
Working with Darla for this year has been so freeing creatively, instructive mentally and essential physically, making me a more authentic, centered, and confident artist.”

Quinn: World-Inside-Out
Quinn Leary / Theatre Maker

He came in standing at multiple thresholds:

“I have never taken the reins as far as leading the storytelling in a collaborative process, namely through the lens of writing—and idea-building.”

“I’m actually at a juncture right now where I know I would benefit from both process and project support.”

He’d always been a powerful performer and ensemble collaborator.

But now ~ with collaborators inviting him into authorship in a new capacity ~ he felt the call to expand and discover what this world of work is and could be.

We began by challenging his assumptions about what a story even is.

To move through that question ~ not as a block, but as a doorway: “Why this story, why now?”

To introduce idea-building as stories told differently.

Over four sessions, I built a structure of creative investigation around him. We moved through a live sequence of generative constraints, devised experiments, and feedback aligned to the work as it emerged.

What came through wasn’t just “material.”

It was a whole internal reconfiguration ~ raw, specific, and previously inaccessible.

“I have built a library of fragments, sketches, poems, and particles that are rife with potential, but more importantly, delighted me to make.”

He didn’t just create work.

He met it.

And in doing so, stepped fully into the role he was already moving toward:

A creative lead.
A builder of internal architectures.
A builder of immersive systems across mediums.
A builder of aesthetic worlds.
A builder of spaces where stories unfold.
One who knows what to do with the signal when it arrives.

Olivia: Where Do I Start

Olivia Leibe
Artist / Actor / Photographer

“In our first session, I didn’t know what questions to ask or which areas of my craft to explore.”

She arrived at a particular threshold: graduating from college, moving to a new city, and beginning to build the structures of her creative life outside of school.

She was already an artist, actor, and photographer, with an active photography business and multiple directions she wanted to pursue.

What she didn’t yet have was a framework for holding all of it ~  for deciding what to explore, what to prioritize, and how to move between imagination and action without fragmenting herself or the work.

We began there.

Together, we mapped what she was carrying and what she wanted to develop. We identified priorities, built working structures, and devised ways for research, experimentation, practical demands, and making to inform one another rather than compete for space.

The goal wasn’t to hand her a system.

It was to build scaffolding she could use, question, adapt, and eventually make her own.

“From these questions, we spent time exploring/imagining the broader strokes, as well as penning in the finer details. The separation between my ‘creative life’ and my ‘everyday life’ was removed.”

The structures we built gave the day-to-day somewhere to go ~ while protecting the curiosity, responsiveness, and experimentation her work needed.

And something larger began to shift: she could see herself not as someone preparing to become an artist, but as an artist building the terms of her own practice.

“The gap between the artist that I see myself as and the artist that I want to become has diminished.”

There’s space here if you don’t know what questions to ask yet ~  if you have ideas, practices, competing directions, or simply the sense that there’s more to build than you currently know how to hold.
