Darla Villani began her studies as a painter at the Art Institute of
Boston and Massachusetts College of Art, receiving a B.F.A.with distinction. After exhibiting, teaching and selling work,
she pursued dance and choreography. Upon completing two full scholarships at Harvard University's Dance Program she
was showing work in New York, accumulating grants, residencies and commissions. A recipient of a Guggenheim
Fellowship in Choreography, her work has been shown at The Joyce Theatre, Dance Theatre Workshop, The Kitchen and
International Venues. Very meaningful markers include an invitation from Bill T. Jones to collaborate
in the creation and performance of a premiere work for his company called, Ursonate. She was the first collaborator
invited into the company since his partner, the late Arnie Zane. Robert Wilson has also extended
several invitations to participate in the development of new projects at the Watermill Center including Death,Destruction
in Detroit III, Barcelona Point, and notably working with Dominque Sanda on Wilson's
adaptation of Lady From The Sea. She was recently invited by Mr. Wilson to audition for a principle
role in the 2012 remount of "Einstein On The Beach." Darla is a recipient of a MacDowell
Colony Residency Fellowship, and will continue developing "750/1812," a novella.
Ms. Villani is an active member of The Brooklyn Writer's Space.
